Retail Project

Background & Goal
A retail Fortune 500 company asked us to do a vision prototype that would eventually replace their existing desktop application which was outdated and too complex for their users. The customer wanted a more user friendly application that would still be able to manage the entire product development process, from assortment planning to design, to full specification development, to sourcing and costing, and pre-order confirmation. The goal of this project was to develop a new web-based application that would break down the complexity of the original one but allow users to focus on the different areas of the application when needed in order to save them time and be more productive.
My Role
I paired up with another UI/UX designer; we were tasked with doing some user research and creating a vision prototype.
Design Process
-
Talk to users and gather feedback.
We scheduled several phone calls with users to understand what their daily tasks were and what the application needed to provide for them.
-
Create Personas.
We created 2 user personas based on user research and the interviews we conducted.

-
Create scenarios, wireframes, and mockups.

-
Iterate, iterate, iterate...
After several iterations, here are a some visuals for the vision prototype:

Competency Highlights
I demonstrated the ability to interview end users and to incorporate their feedback into the vision prototype.
What I learned
I learned that there are different kinds of users and they each have different job requirements which needed to be reflected in the final product for us to be successful.
